While there are many signs of aging, wrinkles are often the most noticeable and obvious one, especially to the women and men developing them. The mere appearance of a laugh line or a single crow’s foot can send some people into a minor breakdown. What many people don’t realize is that they’re worsening the signs of aging with their own behaviors.

Sleeping On Your Side

Most practices that cause your skin to scrunch up won’t make much of a difference, but sleeping on your side for eight hours at time does eventually add up. We’re constantly recommending to our customers that they switch to sleeping on their back instead of their sides. Sleeping on the side of your face stretches some of the skin and bunches the rest of it up. Leaving the skin stressed like that for long periods of time leads to visible wrinkles eventually. We recommend trying a U-shaped neck pillow or pile up pillows on both sides of your head to keep yourself from rolling over onto your side while you’re asleep.

Squinting All Day Long

It’s fine to squint to see a distant street sign or because of a blast of sun in the face, but constantly squinting can age you dramatically. Determine what’s causing the scrunching of the eyes to figure out how to fix it. Are you having trouble reading things or spending all day staring at a computer screen? Grab a pair of inexpensive reading glasses to protect your eyes and the skin around them. If sunlight is bothering you, invest in a good pair of sunglasses you’ll love to wear. It’s not very helpful to keep eye protection around if you feel unattractive while wearing them.

Stretching Your Skin to Apply Makeup

A little rubbing around your eyes when you’re sleepy is okay, even though it stretches the skin. As long as it’s not a constant habit, these brief moments of tension won’t make much of an impact. However, many women and some men stretch their skin tremendously when applying makeup. Stretching out the eye skin can make it a little easier to dab on eye shadow or pencil in eyeliner, but we also know that it creates and worsens wrinkles when repeated on a daily basis for years. Sucking On Straws or Cigarettes

It’s common knowledge that smoking ages your facial skin, but we find that a surprising number of customers don’t realize the sheer acting of pursing your lips around a cigarette creates wrinkles in the lower part of the face. This means that switching to an e-cigarette with no smoke or nicotine won’t necessarily prevent wrinkles either. Even sipping from a straw regularly can cause issues, so lift your cup to take a sip instead.
