Skincare 101 for Men

If you and I are completely honest with ourselves, there’s no doubt that time seems to pass more quickly the older we get. And the older we get, the more we realize just how old that man staring back at us in the mirror is looking.

Our skin cells start losing collagen before we enter our 30s. The best skincare routine for men needs to protect the skin, rejuvenate and prevent further damage. How can men change our skin for the better, especially as there may be only five minutes a day to dedicate to it?

Using the following skincare products may not make your skin as soft as a baby’s bottom or miraculously turn any of us average Joes into smooth, yogurt-pitching founders of the Fountain of Youth – yes, I’m talking about Hollywood’s never-aged-a-day-in-his-life John Stamos – but, a little effort can generate noticeable improvements.

Elite Serum Rx

Anti-aging Elite Serum Rx targets eye wrinkles, dark under eye circles and puffiness around the eyes. What are people staring at during first impressions or deep conversations? Yes, they’re looking smack-dab at the eyes. Fortunately, Elite Serum Rx can be used in tandem with a plethora of other skincare products. To complete an effective skincare routine, use the following items, as well.

Facial Cleanser

Use a facial cleanser twice a day: once in the morning and again in the evening. Not all cleansers are created equal. The best cleansers contain glycolic acid and are anti-oxidant rich. Just wash using lukewarm water and apply the cleanser using fingertips in a circular motion. Then, rinse and pat dry.

Moisturizer

Hydrated skin keeps wrinkles at bay. Skin can’t be expected to stay supple after daily abuse: hot showers and moisture-stripping bath soaps come with their own particular own pitfalls. So, use a moisturizer with SPF 30 or higher that offers UVA and UVB protection. Yes, moisturizer may seem girly, so choose a fragrance-free option if you’re worried about smelling like a flower.

Dry skin is best remedied with creams, while lotions and gels are best for oily or combination skin. Combination skin means that one part of the face is oily but the rest of the face is dry.

After-Shave

The best kinds of after-shaves are multi-taskers. They sooth and seal the skin while hydrating it. Look for the term “alcohol-free” on the label. Alcohol may brighten our weekends and enhance our self-images, but the kind in after-shave dries out skin.

Timing is crucial. Shave in the shower or right after showering. Warm water and steam keeps hairs supple, so it’s easier to shave them off with less irritation.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be used daily, no matter the season or location. Even if moisturizer includes sunscreen, keep a tube of straight-up sunscreen handy.

Risks of sun exposure include:

  • redness
  • irritation
  • skin cancer
  • premature aging (e.g. fine lines, wrinkles)
  • discoloration of the face (i.e. making dark circles and acne scars even darker)

Let John Stamos keep his personal fountain of youth under. You and I certainly won’t need it. With a few products, like the anti-aging Elite Serum RX, and a few minutes each day, Average Joes like us may look better than Uncle Jesse ever did
